Miranda July

Show & Tell w/ Miranda July!
Cinefamily – July 26 at 8pm
“For our very first Show & Tell, we’ve chosen filmmaker/author/performance artist/all-around fascinating figure Miranda July — someone whose creativity, mystery and unique mind is present in all facets of her art. Miranda’s sense of humor and her singular way of looking at the world makes her just the kind of person we’d love to rummage through the closets of, in order to dig up her curios, memories and influences. Instead of going to her living room, we’re inviting her to ours, so that she can cozy up and tell us what her past few summer vacations were like…and maybe the other seasons too!”

Eleven Heavy Things | 07.23.11 – 10.23.11
MOCA Pacific Design Center

“This exhibition from artist, filmmaker, and writer Miranda July features a series of 11 sculptures that encourage viewer interaction in the Pacific Design Center Plaza. The cast fiberglass, steel-lined pieces include pedestals to stand on, tablets fashioned with holes for body parts, and freestanding abstract headdresses. The work was first exhibited in a garden within Giardino delle Vergini for the 53rd International Art Exhibition at the Venice Biennale in 2009, and at Union Square Park in New York in 2010.”

The Future | Directed By: Miranda July
At the LA FILM FEST Hosted by MOCA

“In Miranda July’s boldly imaginative second feature, a couple gives themselves the opportunity to explore a “what if” situation. What if Sophie and Jason could quit their jobs for 30 days and do the things that might actually be fulfilling to them? What if Sophie could choreograph a solo dance masterpiece and Jason could solve global warming by canvassing for an environmental cause? Fantasy blends with reality as their endeavors turn out to be less than fulfilling and each enters a realm of personal failure that inevitably leads to a crisis in their relationship.

A film that could only come from July’s incredibly unique perspective, The Future reveals the ways in which we can lose ourselves and each other.”
